Photos: South Plantation Erin Dimeglio makes history

PLANTATION, Fla. — South Plantation senior Erin Dimeglio’s dream came true when she took two snaps in the Paladins’ 31-14 victory at Nova High School Friday night.

The 17-year-old became the first girl to go in as quarterback during a regular-season high school football game in Florida. Though she handed the ball off twice from the shotgun formation, it wouldn’t surprise me if Dimeglio sees more action and gets to pass this year.

As someone who writes about sports — in a very male-dominated industry — it was an honor to cover such a story. And, as I mentioned on my Twitter, it comes during Title IX’s 40th anniversary.

Below are photos I took during warm-ups and her entrance into the game. Be sure to check out my Miami Herald story here and video of her first play here.
